Cleanse April 2017

Did you know that the World Health Organization advised us in 2016 that air pollution may be linked to as many as 3 million deaths a year, and in the US nearly 4 billion toxins are dumped into our environment of which 72 million are carcinogenic?!  To make matters worse this air pollution then filters into our water supply and on to all the foods grown outdoors including organic foods. Now, organic foods are still a better option, as they have not been intentionally sprayed with fertilizers and chemicals, but  they are still susceptible to the pollution in the environment.  Evidence has shown that these toxins break down enzymes that are critical for detoxifying these chemicals and assisting our bodies abilities to digest more difficult to digest proteins, such as wheat and dairy.
My intention is not to cause alarm, or create fear... that is what the media does...  I will state that stress (stinkin thinkin), lack of a balanced whole food diet and lifestyle habits influence our state of health.

Proverbs 23:7, "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee."

Change your mindset- change your life!

You may consider yourself a health guru, or you may be on the other end of the spectrum... you may have tried numerous diets and cleanses, or this may be all new to you and you may be struggling with health related issues... wherever this post finds you... don't be fooled by the masses- getting older is not supposed to result in fatigue, and arthritis, and sickness and a lesser ability to be physically active, and so on... but we have a responsibility here. We must take care of our bodies so they take care of us, my friends, until the day we leave this earth.

We are all busy doing something. Where is that something leading you right now?!  Doing a semi-annual cleanse could be one of the best things you've ever done for yourself!  It's truly a small commitment of time, energy and money (for the herbal formulas- everything's organic and of highest quality, no synthetics, no preservatives, etc) you have nothing to lose. You do your best, as your best is better than doing nothing!

I have done it. I will be here to help you, support you and answer your questions in anyway that I can.

With love,
Jennie

Understanding A Child's Stage of Life- Kapha

I have heard many parents address their concerns lately regarding their children's health. Repeated illnesses, sinus issues, trouble sleeping, lack of appetite and lymphatic congestion are just a handful of the symptoms that have been mentioned.  The overuse of antibiotics, lack of probiotics during the use of antibiotics, improper diet and lifestyle habits all contribute to health issues.  I have two young children and I have by no means perfected anything, nor will I ever, as life happens, but there are two things in my book that are FLAWLESS and unchanging.  1. God's word says in Ephesians 4:16, "He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love."  The whole body, "The Temple", works together perfectly when cared for properly.  If there is an imbalance, a symptom, or something wrong there are many reasons as to why this could be occurring.  This DOES NOT mean that there is something wrong with the person, or an organ/tissue in this matter.  2. The science of Ayurveda is the oldest paradigm of health.  It has been in use for over 5,000 years.

I personally feel that there is a time and place for modern medicine, but in almost all instances like a viral/bacterial infection, the flu and even cancer, yes, I said cancer, a clean diet and natural remedies/supplementation are typically much more effective.  Why?  It gets to the "ROOT" cause. Mark my word... take your pick, ask any medical doctor what they learned in school and I am certain that they will mention very little about diet, nutrition and lifestyle.  They were educated on the "TREATMENT" of health related issues with medicine, PERIOD.  They have very little knowledge on preventing the ailments that plague the nation today from Celiac disease, high blood pressure, the common cold and cancer.  In order to obtain this kind of knowledge they must pursue an additional education in a wellness based field like functional medicine, "Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms"  (https://www.functionalmedicine.org/about/whatisfm/#sthash.i9jZDoZq.dpuf).  I have personally experienced the failures of modern medicine time and time again and I have seen people rise above with prayer, faith and natural medicine.  The pharmaceutical industry has not improved health.  I cannot tell you of a single person who has been cured of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fibromyalgia, or sinus issues through the use of modern medicine.  Marcia Angell, MD, a Harvard professor of medicine and former editor of the famed New England Journal of Medicine, wrote, "Over the past two decades the pharmaceutical industry has moved very far from its original high purpose of discovering and producing useful new drugs ... Now primarily a marketing machine to sell drugs of dubious benefit, this industry uses its wealth and power to co-opt every institution that might stand in its way, including the US Congress, the FDA, academic medical centers, and the medical profession itself. (Levi, 2006)."  I realize that this may appear to have very little to do with a child's stage of life, but the fact is that it has a lot to do with a child's life.  How many of us rush to the doctor when our child tugs on their ears, easily accepts a prescription for antibiotics when recommended and simply accepts the MD'S word as the final say?  There are other options that work.

According to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, children are in the Kapha stage of life from birth to around age 17.  This means that they make mucous for a living!  Children need to consume a very well-balanced, whole-foods diet with real food.  Whole grains, freshwater fish, organic chicken/turkey, lentils/beans, fresh fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds and their butters, olive oil, ghee and coconut oil are some of the foods that are wholesome and nourishing for growing children. There are exceptions when one food, or another may need to be removed from the diet for a period of time, for instance, if there is evidence of a food allergy, or sensitivity.

Children have immature immune systems, therefore, they do not process toxins well.  Because of this, they accumulate toxins very easily at young ages.  Pesticides and herbicides, along with the slew of other environmental pollutants present themselves as toxins in the body.  Therefore, be sure to reference the offending list below in order to get a gage on which fruits and vegetables should be purchased organic.  Also opt for organic chicken/turkey, local eggs and dairy (if well tolerated). Freshly steamed veggies like peas, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes and asparagus are some nutrient-dense veggies that kids love.  Prepare these foods with ghee as often as possible, as it is loaded with vitamins A and D , omegas, and more.

Cold foods and drinks are some of the biggest offenders throughout life, however, they are especially a poor choice for children.  You see, eating cold food and drinks puts out the digestive "fire".  Ice, ice cream, cold milk with cereal and are a big no-no.  This is especially important during cold weather months.  Choose room temperature or warm beverages.  Opt for hot meals and soups over cold sandwiches and smoothies.  Cold foods like ice cream are fine as an occasional treat during the summer, but should be avoided during cooler months.

Dairy milk should ALWAYS be boiled before consuming.  Boiling milk breaks down the dairy proteins making it easier to digest.  Simply bring it to a boil for 5 minutes with a sliver of ginger.  It can also be spiced with a pinch of turmeric, or cardamon.  Modern dairy, however, is VERY difficult to digest, as cows are fed improperly and pumped with antibiotics which pass through to their milk, so this makes for a very different product that is very hard to digest.  It creates excess mucous and clogs the lymphatic system.  You may find that you benefit from drinking goats milk, almond milk, rice milk, or hemp milk instead.  Goat milk is much easier to digest than cows milk because they are not raised improperly and the composition of the milk is different.  You must still boil goats milk, however, to break down the proteins for easier digestion.

Yogurt has been viewed as an amazing health food.  It does help to clean the digestive tract and restore balance, but due to it's thick nature it can cause mucous formation. If you enjoy yogurt and seem to digest it well it is best served as a lassi in which it is diluted with water and spices.  You can also mix it with kefir, a drinkable yogurt, or have kefir in place of yogurt. Kefir helps to colonize the digestive tract with good bacteria.  It is best to opt for plain yogurt/kefir, or products sweetened with stevia, or honey. Sugar suppresses the immune system. Yogurt/kefir is best served at lunch when digestion is strongest.  Digestion slows at night, so dairy should be limited then to avoid congestion.

Dry foods like crackers, granola and chips can aggravate the body.  The body seeks hydration and these foods are counterproductive. Granola can be consumed with warm milk and a small amount of ghee.  Chips can be consumed with a healthy fat like guacamole.  Again, consume these foods in moderation, as chips are not health foods, but these suggestions will help you to digest the food better when consumed.

Wheat is mentioned in the bible and is a very healthy grain, however, wheat is very hard to digest today because most of it is genetically modified.  If you can locate products that are certified GMO Free, organic and sprouted then you may not have trouble digesting wheat. This is why there has been a rise of digestive related issues like Celiac, Crohn's and diverticulitis, fibromyalgia, etc. Opt for gluten free grains if you suspect a food sensitivity.  Buckwheat, amaranth, millet, quinoa, gluten free oats, rice and teff are some options.  Most of them are very nutrient dense as well.

Eating fruit alone is wise.  Fruit is digested very differently from other foods. Eating some cooked fruits like apples, or raisins with other foods is o.k. from time to time.  The sugars in the other foods that you consume, such as grains (glucose), digest quickly and when the fructose is consumed through the consumption of fruit it slows down digestion, causes fermentation (bad bacterial growth) in the gut and can lead to the storage of fat.

Basic kitchen spices like cumin, coriander/cilantro, cardamon, ginger and fennel can be added to food in small amounts to aid in digestion.  These herbs enhance nutrient absorption, support gastrointestinal health, detoxify the lymphatic system and more.

Basic supplements like a whole food multivitamin, fermented cod liver/butter oil (the butter oil carries the nutrients to the organs and tissues of the body), vitamin d, particularly during the winter, a quality probiotic and a jar of chywanprash (on hand) is a good start for children. Now, this is not to say that all kids need these things, especially if their well-informed and educated doctor recommends otherwise, but most doctors would recommend some if not all of these items.  Our soils have not really been depleted of vitamins, but they have been shown to be low in minerals.  I prefer whole food multi's, as they are better utilized by the body.

Sitting down for a meal is SO IMPORTANT.  The body simply cannot digest food if we are walking around, standing, talking, or upset/agitated while eating.  Aim to eat at the same times everyday, so that your bodies digestion can be primed and ready for your meal.  Eat in a calm environment and chew your food well.  Take a few sips of warm water with your meal to aid in digestion, but DO NOT drink large quantities of fluids, as this dilutes your digestive enzymes and makes it more difficult to break down food.  Children can drink 4-8oz of water 15-30 minutes prior to eating to hydrate the digestive system.  If that is a challenge you can go ahead and serve water with meals to assure that do stay hydrated, but make sure it is room temperature to warm.

Children should have at least 20-30 minutes of active time on most days.  They can dance, ride bikes, skip, do jumping jacks, watch exercise videos appropriate for their age, set up challenges like jumping over pillows, or running around toys.  Get creative and have fun!  Exercise releases "feel good hormones"and it increases blood and oxygen flow throughout the body, which in turn helps the body to detoxify.  They will sleep better too!

Having a regular bedtime routine and set bedtime is important.  Children, grow and cleanse while they sleep.  An earlier bedtime, around 7-8pm and an earlier wake-up time, around 6-7am is best. (see site below for more information, good friend of mine... :-)

Emotional and spiritual happiness is vital as well.  We all know that children are like sponges.  They remember what they see and hear.  We must protect their minds and guard their hearts.  Appropriate T.V. shows and movies, music and the environment that children are exposed to all shape and mold a child's mindset and personality.  They need to feel and see genuine love, peace, patience and feel secure.

Why Cleanse

Why cleanse when you eat healthy? Cleansing gives your body an opportunity to break away from your normal eating patterns and restore balance as the seasons changes. If you do not follow the appropriate seasonal diet during the summer, for instance, it typically produces excess heat in the body. This then creates dryness and makes you more prone to illness in the winter. Cleansing also releases stored emotions, like worry, anger, fear, bitterness, jealousy, etc., these emotions are lipophilic. They are a "safe haven" and they are stored away in our fat cells. In turn we experience physical, emotional and spiritual disturbances for years!! When we cleanse we burn off fat-soluble molecules of emotion and we detoxify the environmental toxins that also hide away in our fat cells. We release old patterns of behavior and feel more vibrant, refreshed and peaceful... the way life is supposed to be. With Love, Jennie

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

The moment you let God into your heart, to break down the walls and the barriers, the bitterness... it becomes the moment he embraces you, saves you and fills your heart with unconditional love and joy.. With Love, Jennie xo
.
Deuteronomy 30:15-20 New International Version (NIV)

15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Childhood Obesity and Other Child Related Health Issues On The Rise

Childhood obesity and other child health related issues are on the rise.  According to the science of Ayurveda, the oldest paradigm of health, children are in the Kapha stage of life until they reach the age of 12.

Our body types are all different. While one person can tolerate eating dairy another may not be able to consume it and the same goes for someone capable of eating wheat, rice, eggs, sour fruits and so on. Children are also mucous makers!  Understanding their unique and special body type and appreciating their stage of life will empower you to help them grow into healthy, happy adults.

If your children have on-going health related issues, or they need to encourage the body to sustain a fat-burning metabolism message me and I will give you some tips.  I have a very basic method that can be used to help children stabilize their mood, increase energy and reduce excess weight (if needed).

Jennie

Think Like God

Have you thought about what you are thinking about?  When you wake in the morning do you sometimes find it challenging to be optimistic?  I realize that it may sound completely awkward to most people to, "Pay Attention To What You Are Thinking About."  If you are a believer, then you should be thinking like God.  I am still learning myself!  I heard Joyce Meyer talking today, so I thought I would recap some of her thoughts...

Your thoughts affect your entire walk through this journey called life, your thoughts affect your relationship with God and with others.  While others may form opinions about you God will NEVER have a bad thought about you, or if you are going to change things in your life.  God ONLY sees the possibilities for you and your life!  Isn't that great news?

Our behavior is a product of our thoughts.  We have all made mistakes.  We are not perfect, but our sins have been washed clean and our spirits have been renewed. We can live our lives in faith and get our relationship right with God.  What we do, or do not do does not determine who were are in Christ.  We can change and we can learn new things all the time.  We can be what we say we believe.

Do you like yourself?  We need to have a good relationship with ourselves.  Are you trying to be someone you are not?  God won't help you do that.

Spiritual maturity takes time.  I can attest to this!  My hubby has been working on me for years and after 9 years of a very happy, healthy, blessed marriage I am always growing, changing and evolving. I get "it" and I am SUPER STOKED!  God and my hubby are my saving grace!  God understands everything.

Why don't we hear these sorts of things in church?  Well, I was raised Catholic and I personally cannot recall being led to dig deep and truly seek out a relationship with God.  I knew the stories of the Bible and I went to church, but I don't know if I could share much more with you than that.  Fear, pride and arrogance, can cloud God's desire to truly develop a relationship with you.  Pride and arrogance is when you think you are better than someone else, or something of the sort.  God is not afraid to tell you how wonderful you are despite your imperfections.  He's working in every area of your life, trust me.  If you think and act wrongly you will never be who God wants you to be.

Jeremich 29: 11-13 "11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

The trumpets will blow, the skies will part and the arc angels will appear and everything is going to be fine!  God thinks you are wonderful!

God knows you even if others do not.  So, do not worry, do not fret, take one day at a time and live in faith.  Be peaceful, patience, kind, good, loving, joyful, faithful, humble and have self-control (the fruits of the spirit).

With Love,
Jennie

Creating Balance

We live in an ever-changing world.  Finding balance can be one of the greatest challenges.  We are also in an era where information is available at our fingertips.  It can feel overwhelming at times because everyone has a thought and opinion about EVERYTHING!

One doctor will recommend a vegetarian diet, another doctor will recommend a meat, starch and vegetable based diet and the other doctor will recommend a diet that eliminates this, or that type of food.  What works for one person may not work for you.

Our bodies are all wired a little differently.  One person could tolerate eating animal protein 3 times a day, while another person would be better consuming it a few times a week.  The most important thing that you can do to live a long, healthy, happy, fruitful life is to find out more about your body type so that you can consume the types of foods that are right for you.  Assuring that you get enough sleep, some sunshine, or vitamin D, a regular daily routine, keeping stress to a minimum through regular exercise, yoga and meditation and surrounding yourself with positive minded people will all help as well.

For most people, elimination diets will fail.  For instance, most people would begin to crave certain types of food if one important food group was eliminated.  It is best to eat a well balanced diet that is also free of white flour, white sugar and processed foods.  If there are on-going health issues then there are occasions where doctors may recommend removing a certain food from your diet for a period of time which would allow the GI tract and the body the proper time to heal.  Once this is accomplished you can slowly re-introduce the eliminated foods.

The group cleanse begins on October 13th- October 26th!  It's only two weeks my friends, you can do it!

With Love,
Jennie

FDA sounds alarm on dangers of antacid drugs

If you are taking prescription drugs, or use any over the counter medications for health related issues, even for a cold, have they cured your condition? If not, it may be time to change gears.

44% of the adult population self medicates with antacids. Antacids lead to GI lesions. Long term, or regular use also shuts down the bodies natural ability to produce stomach acid. Talk about putting fire on fire. There are alternative methods that will not only heal the GI tract and restore health to the rest of the body, but there are also alternative methods in dealing with indigestion and they do not harm the body, or mind what-so-ever. Cleanse time- October 13th! Jenniefos@gmail.com With Love, Jennie

http://chriskresser.com/fda-sounds-alarm-on-dangers-of-antacid-drugs/

Healing The Digestive Tract

In medical school a doctor learns the normal's and abnormal's, how to "treat" the symptoms, but not cure.  1% of illness are cured by how doctors diagnose and while this helps it does not cure the underlying, root cause of the health related issue (s).  Prescriptions and over the counter medications, improper diet, lack of quality sleep, stress and a sedentary lifestyle all create imbalances in the body which then lead to more potentially serious health related issues.

If the GI tract is unhealthy and inflamed the whole body will feel it.  Health related conditions like, but not limited to: arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, candida overgrowth, sleep difficulties, allergies (even seasonal), asthma, cancer and the common cold all can be linked back to poor GI health.

The first thing you can do to fast track your way into an improved state of health is to cleanse the WHOLE BODY of impurities.  Join us for the group cleanse across the country beginning October 13th.  You can do it- it's only 2 weeks!
With Love,
Jennie

Thoughts Regarding A Cleanse

During a cleanse you want to eliminate foods that are hard to digest like raw veggies, animal protein, dairy, wheat, etc and keep things as healthy and fresh as possible. You also do not want to consume any stimulants, like coffee, or caffeinated tea.  Raja's Cup, which I carry and herbal teas like chamomile, mint and licorice root are great harmonizing and energizing substitutes.  Here are some reasons to avoid coffee: 1.DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a steroid hormone that can decrease with the consumption of coffee. DHEA is responsible for cellular and tissue repair. It also enhances memory and cognitive function, protects against stress, and supports numerous physiological processes, 2. Coffee is a stimulant and increases the release of stress-fighting hormones, which are usually reserved for life or death, fight or flight situations.  Similar effects on mood and autonomic response are measured in the body regardless of caffeine level between regular coffee and decaffeinated coffee, 3. Coffee consumption (including decaffeinated coffee) releases an addictive neurotransmitter called dopamine. Dopamine is a pleasure hormone and when the brain is bathed in dopamine, it never forgets the source. Finally, Raises homocysteine levels – a major risk factor for heart disease, Raises blood pressure, Raises cholesterol, Increases inflammation, Is associated with heart irregularities,Can damage the nervous system, Interferes with neurotransmitters in the brain, Alters DNA repair, Increases risk of kidney stones, Lowers bone density in women, Interferes with sleep, Is linked to erectile dysfunction and Is linked to increases symptoms of gastric reflux and heartburn.

Colorado Cleanse- What's Involved

As I have previously mentioned, cleansing is as much mental and spiritual as it is physical, so it's very important to incorporate aspects such as yoga and meditation.  These practices can be done in a short period of time and they will leaving you feeling at ease and at peace.

"What does the Cleanse involve?

During the 2-week Colorado Cleanse you will do a daily practice of yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises, 12 minutes of aerobic exercise, take Ayurvedic herbal formulas that support the detox process, and eat a special kitchari cleanse diet during one of the three phases:
PHASE 1 (Days 1-4)
To prepare your body to flush these toxins out of their storage sites, we will first make sure that your natural detox channels are functional by following an allergen-free whole foods diet, eating 3 specific foods each day, and taking the specified herbs. This will help:
  • Balance Blood Sugar and Heal Intestinal Villi: Start by stabilizing your blood sugar and healing the intestinal mucosa of your intestinal tract.
  • De-Stagnate the Lymphatic System: Improve the function of your lymphatic system, which drains the gut through the GALT (Gut Associated Lymphatic Tissue) where 80% of the body’s immune system is housed.
  • Thin the Bile and Prepare to Detox: Once the detox channels of the lymph are moving, de-congest the liver and thin the bile. Adequate bile flow is critical in optimizing and maintaining the detox channels of the body.
PHASE 2 (Days 5-11)
During Phase 2, you will eat a simplified diet of nonfat kitchari, which is a specific type of rice and beans prepared in a way that helps heal the digestion. You will also be drinking increasing amounts of ghee each morning, performing an ancient Ayurvedic process called “Oleation.” You will close Phase 2 with a gentle laxative therapy on day 11.
  • Reset Fat Metabolism, Flush the Liver and Detox Toxic Fat: Once the liver and bile are functioning better, cleanse the toxic chemicals that are stored in the fat cells.
  • Self-Inquiry Exercises to help release old emotions, patterns, habits and behaviors that store in the fat cells.
PHASE 3 (Days 12-14)
After the kitchari cleanse diet during Phase 2, you will return to the Phase 1 diet and add a Digestive Reset Protocol to boost your digestive fire.
  • Reset Digestive Strength: After the cleanse, reset your upper digestive strength, which is the most common cause of digestive distress.
AFTER THE CLEANSE
You will continue taking your herbal formulas for a few more weeks. In addition, we recommend that you follow a seasonal, whole foods diet, which you will naturally have the craving for now."

YOU Are Something Greater

"I'm not meant to just stay quiet, I'm meant to be a lion..." So here goes it... You were here before you were born and you will be here when you die. You are not your body and you are not your mind. Your mind and body are simply instruments. That which is not fulfilled in your waking state is fulfilled in the dream state. You are peace, purity, blissful and truth. You are all that is good. When you are in a deep sleep you are in complete peace and that is who you truly are. If you are dealing with health related issues that just don't seem to go away you must learn to separate your mind and body from your "true self". Yes, you must also care for your body by eating the right foods and exercising, etc, for your specific body type and you must remove toxic, repetitive, worthless thoughts from you mind. Amen. I said my piece. With love, Jennie

If you didn't cleanse in the spring now is a great time to remove excess mucous, toxins and accumulated summer heat. I work with the renowned Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Douillard and his team of experts on a regular basis and we would love for you to join us for the fall cleanse. He has been on dr. Oz too! I am also working with Dr. Kumuda Reddy, Dr. Hari Sharma, Dr. Ryan Bentley and Dr. Anup Kanodia. I spend every evening reading and researching new things which empowers me so that I can be aware, informed and knowledgeable on a wide array of topics to serve you. I am currently exploring schools to further my education in the field of Ayurveda. How can I help and be a blessing to you and yours ? with love, jennie

Nothing Less Than Young Living

Young living is the world leader in essential oils, the pioneers. As we move out of the summer months and into the fall the mucous membranes begin to dry out. Now is a great time to invest in a diffuser or a coolmist humidifier. Utilizing essential oils like thieves to clean the air and kill viruses and bacteria will not only provide moisture to the nasal passages but again cleanse you and keep you healthier through the winter months. While essential oils are a great tool to keep you healthy and feeling well it is also imperative to eat the proper diet. Let me know how I can help put a program together for you and your family to ensure optimal wellness through the coming months. Have a great weekend with love Jen
